Sunfield Community Hall: Clean Energy for Business

Rows of ground-mounted solar panels in an open field

Project Overview

Sunfield Hall hosts weddings, markets, and town meetings miles from the nearest reliable grid line. Its diesel generator was loud, pricey, and hated by every wedding photographer. A 12 kW ground-mount array with battery backup changed everything.

The Challenge

No usable roof (heritage slate), long winter evenings of event lighting, and a strict noise expectation from the village. The system had to be silent, discreet, and survive cloudy weeks.

Our Approach

We sited panels on an unused paddock behind the hall, paired them with a 20 kWh battery bank, and kept the old generator purely as a last-resort backup that has switched on exactly twice.

Results & Outcome

Diesel use down 94%, event bookings up — the hall markets itself as the region’s first silent, solar-powered venue. Savings fund free community movie nights every month.
